Ingredients

  • 2-3 cinnamon sticks (or 1 tsp ground)

  • 1 tsp fresh cloves (or 1 tsp ground)

  • 1 tsp ground nutmeg

  • 1/2 tsp ground cardamom

  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger

  • OPTIONAL - vanilla extract, orange zest, star anise to taste

INSTRUCTIONS

In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup cane sugar and 1 cup water. Add in all the ingredients.

Simmer and Stir: Place the saucepan over medium heat. Stir occasionally until the sugar is fully dissolved.

Infuse the Flavor: Lower the heat and let the mixture simmer gently for about 5-10 minutes. The longer it simmers, the more intense the flavor.

Cool and Strain: Remove from heat and let the syrup cool. Strain out the solids using a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth.

Store: Pour the syrup into a clean glass jar or bottle. Seal tightly and store in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 weeks.

This spiced syrup is always a hit with everyone who tastes it—expect friends to ask for the recipe! It also makes a thoughtful gift for the season; just bottle it up, add a festive ribbon, and you’ve got a homemade treat that brings instant holiday cheer to any kitchen.
